We deliver workshops in half or full day formats. Please call to discuss your needs.

Smarter Storytelling

Storytelling is a tool to make your message influential, memorable and clear. It’s also a skill that can be learned and practiced. This workshop helps people communicate through effective storytelling: salesperson to client, manager to employee, board member to donor patron. Hark! Communications teaches material developed by Dr. JD Schramm of Stanford Graduate School of Business. The workshop is fun, engaging and sometimes moving.

The Professor’s Toolkit

The Professor’s Toolkit is a workshop designed to strengthen the classroom skills of faculty. Originally created for junior faculty at Stanford Graduate School of Business, the day-long workshop teaches communications strategy, smarter storytelling, designing visuals for presentations, sources of power in the classroom, WOW moments (worked out well), and The Classroom as Theater: What We Learn from Broadway. Participants get a chance to practice in a session of peer review and coaching. Then the class takes home an exceptional reading list, culled by award-winning professors, and a “playbook” of new techniques to employ in the classroom.

Ten Steps to Better Business Writing

The written word extends our reach and is a valuable tool of influence. Deborah Denenberg’s years at Stanford Graduate School of Business led to the development of this workshop. Hark! takes participants through a straightforward process to improve written communication,  after which they more fully understand communication strategy, the writing process, and the underlying framework of a paper. Participants emerge stronger writers.

Presentation Skills for Public Speakers

(or, What We Learn from Broadway)

This workshop is for the presenter. We study communication strategy, practice presentation skills, and learn ways to design effective visuals. To learn the elements of a compelling presentation, we draw on a Broadway metaphor: the dramatic arc, the opening and closing, handling nerves, volume-speed-enunciation, the physical production (dress and props), and more.

Managing Across Generations

Is it rude to text during a board meeting? How do we communicate to the video generation? How do we respect the senior wisdom in our ranks? This workshop is taught by a Human Resources expert, bi-lingual, who has managed across generations and across continents. While designed to bring out the best in a diverse workforce, it also hones common sense managing skills: active listening, empathy, leadership.
